Brotherhood Breakfast

Sunday, September 14, 9:30 a.m.
Announcing... What It Means to be a Jew
For more than 40 years, since he began his graduate rabbinic studies, Rabbi Stephen Fuchs has been studying, questioning, and struggling with the ideals, teachings, and practices of the Jewish people. He knows a thing or two about being Jewish, and he will share his thoughts with us in a ten-part sermon series throughout the coming year. As a prologue to this series, Brotherhood has invited Rabbi Fuchs —in one hour or less—to share the key concepts of his upcoming talks. Think you know everything about Judaism? Then come hear Rabbi's talk and see if you agree with his take on what makes us Jewish. To make it more enticing, Brotherhood will whip up a delicious breakfast for you to enjoy!

Join the Beth Israel Choir!

Tuesday, September 16, at 7:30 PM
We warmly invite choir members, former members, and YOU, the ‘shower’ canary, the ‘closet’ crooner, the tuneful troubadour, the late blooming baritone, the retired chorister, the empty-nester nightingale—in short, ALL you tune-carrying men and women who secretly (or not so secretly) have always wanted to sing in a group, but were too afraid to let on, to COME to tea, meet the choir, and “look us over.” This could be just the match you’ve been waiting for! If you attended the Spring By Golly! By Gosh! By Gershwin! show, you already know something about us; we put on varied programs, we HAVE FUN, and are inspired and helped by our wonderful leaders Natasha Ulyanofsky, keyboard genius and the fabulous Cantor Pamela Siskin, to be more than we knew we could be.

CONGREGATION READ

As A Driven Leaf by Milton Steinberg
Rabbi Stephen Fuchs will review the book at Selichot Services, Saturday, September 20 at 8 p.m.
This is a classic book for all Jews to read and reread. Set in Roman Palestine, it tells the gripping tale of renegade talmudic sage Elisha ben Abuyah's struggle to reconcile his faith with the allure of Hellenistic culture. For more information, click here. Copies of the book are available in the Learning Center.
