New Members

Welcome, New Members!
Experience our synagogue for a year and see what we have to offer you! If you have never been a member of Congregation Beth Israel, we extend complimentary dues to you for your first year.

(Note: Fees are the same as current members. This offer is for dues for our fiscal year July 2008-June 2009 only.)

We offer a variety of spiritual, educational, and social programs that speak to our commitment to Reform Judaism, the diversity of our congregation, and our dedication to provide a sense of spirituality and community to all of our members.

Clare Feldman and Marge Cohen, Co-Chairs of our Membership Committee, would be delighted to talk to you. Clare can be reached at 860-561-0736 and Marge at 860-284-1175.

To learn more about Congregation Beth Israel, read our New Member General Information packet.

Dues List

If there is no bread, there can be no Torah; If there is no Torah, there can be no bread.
- Pirke Avot, Teachings of our Fathers

The idea behind this quote is both clear and profound: in order to create a strong Jewish life, a community must create for itself a strong economic base. Membership dues are the main source of funding for Congregation Beth Israel services, programs, and activities. Your financial commitment helps us accomplish our mission of serving the lifelong spiritual and educational needs of our congregants, and creates strong connections in the Jewish community.

As a member of our community, you receive many benefits, including:

  • Services of clergy for life cycle events
  • Participation in worship services and educational programs throughout the year
  • High Holy Day tickets for those covered by your membership
  • Our monthly Bulletin and weekly Chai Lights, our e-mail newsletter
  • The right to purchase lots in our Cemetery
  • A warm, caring, Jewish community for you and your family to join

Besides annual dues, your financial commitment also includes fees. Every member pays an Energy and Security Assessment fee to cover increasing energy costs and to maintain our Temple's life/safety fire equipment and systems. Most of the cost of operating our Religious School is shared by our members through dues, but we do ask the families who have children in Religious School to pay for a portion of the costs. We also charge a Building Fund if you have not paid into a fund at any other synagogue. Download our Dues List to view our current rates. Please note, the rates are subject to change.

Chai Membership

When you make a financial commitment over and above annual dues and become a Chai Member, you give every member of Congregation Beth Israel, regardless of his or her financial situation, the opportunity to participate fully in the life of the Congregation. Your additional financial commitment enhances the synagogue's full range of programs and services and helps us make up the difference for those unable to pay the full dues.

Dues Reduction

Congregation Beth Israel's policy is that no one is denied membership due to financial limitations. We open our doors to all who wish to become a part of our community, regardless of ability to pay. You may request a confidential application for dues abatement by sending your request to :
